ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIORS

Loewy’s offices designed countless retail and other business interiors from the 1930s into the 1970s, and became the largest planners of stores in the world. They modernized downtown department stores and oversaw their expansion into the suburbs. They also created many early shopping centers and revitalized the supermarket. Under the leadership of his partner William Snaith, Loewy’s firm brought colorful, open, bright, up-to-date stores and American-style retailing to cities around the globe.
