In 1940 Loewy redesigned the packet for Lucky Strike cigarettes, placing the red “bull’s eye” on the back as well as on the front. Soon wartime restrictions on dyes led to the introduction in 1942 of another version, substituting white for the green background. Loewy’s design, with only minor modifications, is still in use today.
